Week 5!

The last week of September has come and gone.  I don't know about you, but I certainly cannot believe that October is here.  This week, 5L worked really hard at pushing our growth mindset thinking.  We also created our very first project to showcase a mindset, theme or character problem from our first read aloud book, The Honest Truth.  Check out highlights from our week below:

*Math: We worked on rounding decimals, 10 x and 1/10 of a decimal, as well as multiplying whole numbers and decimals by powers of 10. We are also working on a Six Flags roller coaster performance task which has students comparing and ordering the drop heights and speeds of varying roller coasters from Six Flags.

*Reading:  We began our first unit by setting goals for ourselves as readers and creating plans to achieve those goals this year.  We talked a lot about how we already have roots as readers, but this year we will really be working on growing our branches and leaves so that we can blossom.

*Writing:  We began brainstorming moments that we experienced a growth mindset in our lives, focusing on time we were flexible, had empathy, were persistent or had optimism.  From there, students picked one small moment and began writing!

*The Honest Truth:  Students got in small groups and were given the task of creating a presentation that demonstrated their understanding of growth mindset from The Honest Truth.  It was amazing to see the creativity and differences between each group!

Have a fabulous weekend!
