Week 3!

This week was full of fun and hard work.  The students in 5L took their beginning of year math assessments, began exploring ways to deepen their thinking as readers, as well as began blogging!  Check out some highlights from our week below:

*Math: We began practicing math workshop routines and explored order of operations.  We also set up our math notebooks which will be used all year long to take notes and help with mastering concepts taught! On Friday, students played 6 different math games with 5D to prep for unit 1.

*Reading:  We continued exploring the five stances of growth mindset, as well as set up our literacy binders.  These will be used for reading & writing throughout the year and will be a great way for students to practice keeping a binder organized.  We also explored levels of thinking as we read.

*Writing:  We launched our classroom blog on Tuesday, and students began creating their first post!  We looked at blogs from past years and discussed what makes a good post.  Students will begin blogging for homework next week.

*Dot Day:  We celebrated dot day with an all school morning meeting followed by a creative art activity.

*Reading Buddies: We met with our 2H reading buddies for the first time in the school garden.  I can honestly say it was AMAZING to watch.  Everyone from 5L embraced their buddy and began building a positive relationship with them.

*Team Building/Growth Mindset:  On Friday afternoon, we participated in the inchworm challenge...and needless to say, it was a CHALLENGE.  Students had to walk from one end of the grass to another, all while keeping their hands and feet touching at all times.  This definitely took some persistence and creative thinking, but it was amazing to see the results.

Enjoy the weekend!
