Week 1!

What a true joy it has been getting to know your children this past week.  I have to say, I am thrilled to have each and every one of them in my class!  5L is filled with caring, thoughtful and kind students.

Our first week was packed with many get to know you activities, discussing what we want our classroom to be like, as well as STEM challenges and art projects.  Take a peek at some of the fun we had:

*First Day of School Smiles:

*STEM Challenges: This week, 5L participated in a variety of challenges that were meant to foster collaboration and critical thinking skills.  Students worked in a variety of groups (and even got a chance to be mixed with students from 5D and 5W) to save Fred, construct a card tower that could hold 25 pennies, build a straw boat that could support unifix cubes as well as build cup towers using only a rubber band and string.

*Top 10 lists
*Emoji questions
*Math about me poster
*Personal art collage
*Outside games with 5D and 5W
*The artifact museum
*The Honest Truth

*Reminder: Curriculum Night will be next Thursday, September 8th from 6:30-7:30. We will meet in my classroom for the first half and then gather in the library for the second half to discuss the fifth grade curriculum with the entire teaching team.

Enjoy the long weekend!
