- Connect yarn activity to show how everyone in our class is connected in some way, despite our different interests and likes.
- We used back to school task cards to get to know one another better! We learned how many hours a night our classmates like to sleep, what their superpower would be if they could choose one as well as which family member they are most like.
- We got together with 5D A LOT! We completed three team building challenges during the week that helped us learn to work in groups effectively. We did the spaghetti challenge, Can You Save Fred? as well as a STEM cup challenge.
- Students created identity collages that will hang up the entire year. I was seriously impressed with the creativity I saw!
- Math About Me: We spent a lot of time brainstorming facts that we wanted others to know about us, then used our math minds to create equations that would represent our answers. For example, a student chose the fact how many countries have I been to? Their equation was something like 2x4+(6/2).
- We discussed the habits of great readers and practiced some of the strategies
- Began talking about digital citizenship
- The entire 5th grade participated in an Artifact Museum where we got to see different items everyone brought in that represented who they were.
All in all, it was an awesome week! I have so enjoyed getting to know each and every one of your children. It's going to be a great year!
FYI Curriculum Night is scheduled for Thursday, September 17th from 6:30-7:30pm. We will meet in the classroom from 6:30-7 and then head down to the library with all fifth grade parents to learn about the curriculum your students will be learning this year. Enjoy the holiday weekend!
