Week 35!

This time of year always seems to pass quickly and looking back at this past week, it seems like a blur.  Here's a snapshot of some of the activities:

*Math: Music videos are well under way!  Groups have chosen topics to teach from area and volume to scientific notation.  This week, students worked on rewriting lyrics to a famous song so that their new lyrics would teach how to do a specific math skill.  I can't even begin to tell you how excited I am for the final products.  The class is blowing me away with their lyrical talent!

*Literacy:  We continued working in our fantasy unit, this week focusing on thinking metaphorically about the text, internal and external dragons that characters face, as well as learning life lessons.  On Thursday, we watched Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief to practice applying all of the new skills we have learned so far in this unit.  The level of thinking happening throughout the movie was incredible!

*Science:  This week, students worked in small groups using varying text sets to try and answer our essential questions.  As small groups, they looked at different books, took notes and discussed how the concepts relate back to ecology.  On Friday, each group took on the role of teacher and taught the class what they had learned!

*Maker Fest:  We checked out the Maker Fest on Friday and many students from 5H had their very own projects on display.  What an amazing job done by all!

*IMPORTANT:  I sent out an email earlier this week regarding our upcoming field trip.  Just a reminder, if you wish to drive your child home from the trip, you must fill out a specific form that I have in order to do so.  Please let me know if you need one.

Enjoy the weekend!
