I just can't believe there are only six weeks of the school year left. It's truly hard to fathom. Our first week back from vacation was bursting with new units and learning in all subject areas. Check out some of the happenings below:
*Math: Since we have completed all units of EveryDay Math...5D and 5H began a project based learning simulation that coincides perfectly with our new science unit. In small groups, students are working to create a new habitat at SMS that would promote the life and longevity of a particular animal/insect. They will create blueprints, compare and contrast prices of materials needed to build the habitat, as well as balance a budget sheet. Ask your child about their animal and habitat ideas!
*Literacy: We began our final units in reading and writing, both centered around fantasy! This week, students got to choose a fantasy book group to join and began exploring setting as well as fantasy character traits. Ask your child about their book group!
*Science: We started our ecology unit with 5D! Students worked hard this week at understanding what ecology is, who is involved and how ecosystems work. We played a fun game called Eat or Be Eaten in which students had to create multiple food chains to earn points. On Thursday, students got to watch many live bird cams as we looked at the varying differences between each animal with a scientific lens. It was an amazing experience!
*Wellness Walk: The wellness walk with be on Wednesday at 1:30. Please make sure your child comes to school with sneakers!
Happy Mothers Day
