Week 29!

What a warm week we had! It was nice to get outside and enjoy the sunshine. I'm still in denial that I had to put my sandals away and bring my boots back out this morning. Here's a peek at some of the happenings this past week:

*APRIL FOOLS: I'm sure you've heard by now, but ask your child about the trickery that occurred on Friday.  Mrs. Delello and I had quite the fun time playing a few pranks on the students.  We ended up playing a 5D vs 5H kickball game in the afternoon!

*Math: we learned how to classify both triangles as well as quadrilaterals.  We also switched up our normal math workshop and joined with 5D to begin prepping for Smarter Balanced testing.  For the next week and a half, there will be four centers, each with a teacher, where students will review and practice all of the skills they have learned throughout the school year.

*Literacy:  We finished our argument writing by learning about counter arguments and how to add them into our writing.  Students then used a checklist to self-assess their writing.  We also began looking at written samples from the ELA portion of Smarter Balanced and students worked to score the samples using a rubric.

*Social Studies: We completed our read aloud, King George, What Was His Problem?! Students are now working on writing our very own play about the Revolutionary War.  We will have four narrators who will help to weave together ten important scenes from the war.  5H and 5D will practice our play over the next few weeks and will be performing it on the stage right before April vacation.  More details to follow!

*Birthday Recess: The 5th grade spend a little extra time in the sunshine while celebrating March birthdays!

*Mrs. Hanson came into all classes to introduce Pictavo for our Memory Book.  Everyone took home an explanation of how to create an account by using a parent email.  Students will have morning work time to work on their 1/2 page.

*Reminder: Smarter Balanced Testing begins on Thursday, April 7th.

Enjoy!
