*Math: We continued working on unit 6, this week focusing on multiplying and dividing decimals. We will wrap up unit 6 early next week and begin unit 7, which covers topics surrounding geometry.
*Literacy: This week, we worked hard at strengthening our research teams. Groups pushed themselves to ask tough questions about their research topics, prompting rich discussion. We also learned them impact that quotations can have in our arguments and spent time exploring what makes a good/not so good quotation. Lastly, we learned how to use a graphic organizer to plan how our body paragraphs will go, using evidence to strengthen key points of an argument. This will help students with drafting their argumentative essays next week.
*Social Studies: Now that we have some strong background knowledge of the Revolutionary War, this week students began using different text sets to explore the differing perspectives of people alive during the war. This week, students explored the Revolution from the perspective of women, as well as Patriots, Loyalists, Taxmen and others who were involved in certain battles/events (Boston Tea Party, Lexington and Concord, Boston Massacre and journeys). The conversation buzz around the room was truly incredible, as I heard many students say, "I have never thought this deeply about history before."
*Social Hour: 5H and 5D will be having another social hour on Monday. We plan on talking to all of our students about texting/social media and how this can impact individuals. Feel free to start a discussion with your child about this. Any support at home would be greatly appreciated!
Enjoy the weekend!
