*Math: We are halfway through unit six! Students practiced plotting information on a line plot as well as learned how to multiply decimals. On Friday, we got to enjoy some math games with 5D. Students played different games that touched on various skills such as volume, decimals, powers of ten and order of operations.
*Literacy: We are fully immersed in our argument and advocacy reading/writing units. This week, students learned how to find evidence for both sides of an argument as well as how to mine the text for important pieces of information. We looked at how studies and numbers can enhance our points. We also chose our research/debate topics and began working in groups to find evidence to support our claims. Debate topics include an array of controversial topics such as should people boycott zoos, should teachers give homework, should people be allowed to climb Mt. Eversest or should children be allowed to play violent video games? These topics will be used throughout our unit and as a culminating project, your child will participate in a debate about their topic!
*Social Studies: We continued working on the Revolutionary War. This week, we learned about the Boston Tea Party as well as Paul Revere's famous ride. We also watched a live event from Colonial Williamsburg about women in the Revolution. Students are learning about this important part of history though various perspectives, such as women, children, Patriots, Loyalist etc. Mrs. Delello and myself just introduced what our final project for this unit will be...ask your child about it!
