*Math: we worked on comparing/ordering decimals, as well as decimal place value and writing decimals in expanded, standard and word form. Next week we will begin exploring graphing on a coordinate grid.
*Literacy: Students started their second research report. We began collecting facts and information that will help us to write our final draft and learned how to organize them on an online tool called Padlet. We also watched the beginning part of a documentary about the Transcontinental Railroad and discussed ways the author made viewers think WOW! These strategies will be applied to our own writing. Students also continued with their second week of current event articles. This week, we will look at different strategies to raise the level of our thinking while reading non fiction texts.
*Science: We began our matter unit with 5D! Students have learned a catchy song called Matter Chatter and also participated in their first lab experiment. On Thursday, students were given lyrics to a poem and had to rap, create a skit or sing the lyrics to the rest of the class. Ask your child what they did!
Questions to ask your child:
*What is the topic of your research report?
*What are the three states of matter?
*What was the topic of your current event article this week? What graphic organizer did you choose to show your thinking?
*How do you play decimal war?
*What is happening in Wake Up Missing? Do you think the children will be able to escape Everglades City?
Enjoy the long weekend!
