Week 9!

What a great week we had in 5H!  Take a look at some of the learning we did:

*Math: We continued working on powers of 10 and multi digit multiplication.  Students created their own restaurant, including menus and advertisements while practicing a real world application of multiplication!  Check them out!

*Reading: We began the week by doing a fishbowl of a reading group.  Students watched how they ran a book group discussion and took notes on all the positive things they saw happening.  We also began looking at our own perspectives on characters, plot and theme using evidence to support our thinking.

*Writing:  We are just about done our first writing unit!  Students worked on crafting powerful conclusions as well as studied the elements of a story arc to ensure they had all parts of a story.

*Social Studies:  We wrapped up Three Worlds Meet!  Students created presentations on the essential questions and showcased their learning on Thursday and Friday.  Presentations were just fabulous!  Mrs. Delello and I saw newscasts, Animoto videos, Google Slides as well as a debate.  On Monday we will begin studying the Circulatory and Respiratory Systems as well as Colonization.

*Reading Buddies:  On Friday, we got together with our reading buddies in 2H and helped them count the number of seeds in their pumpkins!  We also measure circumference, made predictions and measured how tall each pumpkin was.

*Halloween:  We had a very special birthday recess for our October birthdays, as well as played some trivia games on Kahoot with 5D.  We ended the day with some Halloween Bingo!  Great fun was had by all.

FYI:
*Parent teacher conferences begin this THURSDAY, November 5th.
*Early release Thursday, November 5
*No School Friday, November 6

Happy November!
