Week 11!

Another week has come and gone in 5H.  It's hard to believe that Thanksgiving is only a week and a half away.  Here's a look at some of the learning we did this week:

*Math: We wrapped up unit 2 and took our assessment on Friday.  Unit 3 will consist of all things fractions.

*Reading:  We began book group projects on Monday, choosing from varying platforms to demonstrate our learning/understanding of our book.  Groups are creating podcasts, digital videos, interactive presentations or are using a program called Storybird, which allows users to create written pieces while using various artwork.  These will be presented to the class at the end of next week.

*Writing:  We finished our personal narrative unit and published our final drafts.  We then began creating digital videos of our narratives using a program called Animoto.  Students get to choose the music, background, images as well as use careful word choice to really evoke emotion to viewers.  These will be sent home to you next week!

*Science:  Learned blood flow through the heart.  Next week, we will being a STEM project where students will take on the role of biomedical engineers and will be given the task of creating a working model of the heart.

*Social Studies: Focused on push/pull factors for leaving Europe.  Also learned about Hernando Cortes and the Aztecs.

*Mystery Skype:  We completed our 6th mystery skype on Monday!  The teacher from the class we were skyping with sent me an email afterwards and was truly impressed with how mature and organized 5H was.

*FYI:  We will be doing a Thanksgiving craft during the two days before break.  If you have any small mason jars/ small glass gemstones or ribbon that you could donate to us that would be wonderful!
