Week 10!

I don't know about you, but I'm glad it's back to feeling like fall. This past week felt like it should have been spring! Here's a look at some of the learning 5H did during this short this week:

*Math:  We began learning traditional long division with both one and two digit divisors.  This week, we will look at turning remainders into fractions and decimals.

*Reading: We have just about wrapped up our first book clubs! Students have been working hard at gathering evidence to support their theories about their books, and on Monday they will learn how to "debate" using their different perspectives.  We will also begin our book group projects this week, where students will get to choose from an array of methods to demonstrate their understanding of their books.

*Writing:  Just about everyone finished up their final draft of their personal narrative!  We spent the week rainbow editing, which can be a lengthy process, but boy does it help us catch our mistakes!  This week, students will be working with a video program to bring their personal narratives to life.

*Science: We began learning about the circulatory system by filling out a KWL chart.    Many students did not know much about the circulatory system, but they sure did come up with some incredible questions!  We watched a Bill Nye video to gain some background knowledge and then began learning about the parts of the heart.  This week, we will focus on blood flow through the heart/body.

*Social Studies: Students are working on colonization with Mrs. Delello.  I forgot to post these last week, but here are two videos from our social studies presentation that just blew me away.  Check them out!

*SeeSaw: In the Maker Space, students have been working with Mr. Gagnon to create an online portfolio of their learning/projects for the year.  These will become available to you in a few weeks, and will allow you to see many projects, narratives or learning your child has done this year!
