Whew! This week sure did pass quickly. Here's a look at some of the learning that happened in 5L over the past few days...
*Math: students have been working on long division with single and double digit divisors. We will begin long division of decimals next week.
*Literacy: We have been working hard with understanding the complexities that upper level non fiction texts have. Students learned the five different text structures and worked in pairs assessing different sets of texts to figure out the structure they have. We also began our new research unit and created Padlets to house all of the information we found!
*Science: Students have been powering through multiple challenges in Mystery Science, which focuses on the solar system. We have been discussing the seasons, stars, earth's rotation and shadows.
*MARS Challenge: Students have just been introduced to a new inquiry project that will take place during science. The challenge? In small design teams, build a school that could successfully run on Mars. Over the next few weeks, groups will work to research, design and build their models. They will then be sent out for viewing by real judges! Want more info? Click here
Ask your child about
-Did they make a math gingerbread house?
-Did they color an ugly sweater during math?
-How they think they did on their math quiz?
-What is your non fiction research topic?
-What is a Padlet?
-What are some of your ideas for your school on Mars?
-What winter watercolor scene are you painting?
*Spelling quizzes will begin next week and will happen bi-weekly. Results will be printed and will come home after each quiz.
Enjoy your weekend!
