It was a jam packed four day week for 5H! Students have been working so hard on a few culminating projects...I can't wait to share them with you. Here's a look at some of the happenings:
*Math: We learned how to multiply fractions by whole numbers, fractions and mixed numbers. We also learned how to cross reduce and how much easier that can make the process of multiplying large numbers. To practice our newly learned skills, we played three rounds of TRASHKETBALL in our desk groups. Ask your child about it!

*Literacy: We are just about done creating our mix books for our informational writing unit. As I said last week, these will be available for free online, but can also be purchased/printed like a real book. I will send home an email next week regarding pricing. Here are a few finished ones that you can check out:
*Science: Students continued the design engineering process this week by visiting four stations that represented different skills that engineers use (sketching, marking/cutting, reinforcing and joining). From there, groups began working on their redesign projects. I can honestly say I have been blown away by the creativity, collaboration and ideas that groups have come up with. Every single student has been fully engaged in this process!

**On Friday, February 19th from 1:20-2:45 we will have our Shark Tank presentations. Students will present their pitch and redesign, mimicking presentations on the actual TV show. This will be held in the cafeteria and you are encouraged and welcome to come and watch!
*Mystery Skype: On Friday, 5H had another Mystery Skype. We were a little bit rusty, but everyone worked well together!
*Valentine's Day Party: Thank you to all who donated toppings, ice cream, supplies and food for our party. It was a great success!
*Reminder: Students will be snow shoeing in PE on Monday, so please make sure they have snow pants, boots, hats, gloves and a jacket.
Hope to see you Friday!
Ms. Hodgdon
