Week 15!

What a jam packed week!  The students in 5H sure were busy.  Here's a look at some of the learning that happened:

*Math: Continued working with fractions.  This weeks major focus was learning how to add and subtract fractions with unlike denominators.  On Friday, we played 6 different math games with 5D that targeted different fraction skills we have been working on.  Our unit 3 test will be on Thursday next week!

*Reading/Writing:  Students are in the middle of a non fiction unit.  After spending a few days gathering notes about their chosen topic, students wrote flash drafts using the information they had found.  Many of them had so much to write, that flash drafting took two days!  We then worked on giving friendly critiques to our writing partner to help with the revision process.

*Science:  Students got to explore a cow heart with Mrs. Kelly on Wednesday!  We got to see the chambers, valves, veins and arteries!  Almost everyone held the heart in their hands as well. A huge thank you to Mrs. Kelly, we really appreciate you!

*Students in 5D and 5H began building their working models of the heart!  I was blown away be the creativity that I saw.  No two groups were building or designing in the same way, yet all groups had incredible ideas.  Students were working together beautifully and were really thinking and problem solving like engineers.  Working heart models will be presented to a real panel of judges on Thursday.

*Mystery Skype: We completed yet another mystery skype!  5H did an excellent job and I was again told by the other class' teacher that the students in our class were so mature and impressive!

*Hour of Code: We participated in an hour of code this week, spending time learning and exploring the world of computer programming.

*The 5th grade puberty talk will be on Monday, December 21st and Tuesday, December 22nd.
*Our holiday party will be held on Wednesday, December 23rd.

Enjoy your weekend!
