Week 14!

The first week of December has come and gone.  It's hard to believe that Winter Break is only 13 school days away.  Below is a snapshot of the learning in 5H this past week:

*Reading/Writing: We launched our nonfiction reading and writing units and began looking at the similarities and differences between non fiction and fiction writing.  We learned how to chunk parts of a text and read for meaning, focusing on sub topic/details.  Students also chose a research topic that truly interested them and began reading different sources to find information to help them write a research essay.  We will be working on writing research reports for the new few weeks.

*Math:  Continued working on equivalent fractions, simplifying fractions, fractions on a number line, benchmark fractions and comparing fractions.  This week we will begin adding and subtracting fractions.

*Science:  We learned about the components of blood and then created models to demonstrate our learning! This week, students will begin researching and designing their working models of the heart.

*Social Studies:  Students participated in a CSI investigation of Roanoke-the lost colony with Mrs. Delello.
