Week 13 & 14!

*Literacy

• Had a poetry slam at the DeLoh Cafe
• Book clubs started up again
• Groups did a SeeSaw activity comparing internal and external character traits
• Began our non fiction unit
• Learned about topic/subtopic/details, boxes & bullets as well as how to determine the main idea
• Student will choose a high interest topic next week and will being writing a non-fiction book!

*Math

• Unit 3 (multiplying whole numbers and decimals) is wrapping up
• Students met with me to discuss where to start in the unit based on their pre-assessment and have continued on their personalized journey
• Working on designing a restaurant/menu on Google Sites
• Topics include area models, estimation, multiplying whole numbers/decimals and problem solving

*Science

• Visited 5W, 5P and 5C the past two weeks to learn about matter
• Physical/chemical changes, density, mixtures/solutions

*Choose Love

• We talked about being courageous and how that can make you a happier and healthier person
• We talked about the brain and how it works when you are feeling anxious or scared
• Kids created personal mantras and their own brave breath stance for a "Choose Love App"
• We have a bulletin board showcasing all this important work!
• This week's lesson focused on CALM, a strategy to use when faced with a problem

Beginning next week...students from 5L and 5D will take over the blog!  They will be in charge of writing about the happenings of the week as well as capturing images.  This will continue to be posted on here as well as on SeeSaw!
