Week 3!

Our first full week of school was a success!  We have launched new curriculum and practiced getting into the swing of fifth grade routines.  Check out some highlights below:

Ask your child about:
-Their classroom job
-Their new seats
-Their map of Stratham project
-Flocabulary
-Our read aloud book: Scar Island

*Math:

  • Took a pre-assessment on grade 4 review concepts
  • Learned why we pre-assess 
  • Learned how to use a pre-assess to drive learning
  • Practiced the different levels of understanding and explored varying scenarios through that lens of thinking
  • Practiced playing math games as a tool to learn
*Literacy:
  • Toured the library
  • Created digital literacy notebooks
  • Made our reading and writing notebooks personalized
  • Discussed the importance of being focused and strategies we could use to help us maintain good working habits despite distractions in the classroom
*Social Studies:
  • Launched three worlds meet with a mapping unit
  • Read the book Encounter and discussed the different perspectives of explorers and Native Americans
  • Learned about different types of maps and map symbols
  • Worked on a mapping project with partners: each pair had to create a map of Stratham using specific peramiters
  • Used Flocabulary to learn by song

We had an awesome day at SHP with such gorgeous weather! Ask your child about the activities they completed!
