What a fabulous first four days we had. Despite the heat and humidity, your children worked so hard at each and every task they were met with. I am greatly enjoying getting to know them and am so excited about our year ahead. Next week we will continue to work on community building, while also getting back into a more regular routine.
Here's a quick snapshot of some of the activities we did this week. Ask your child about them!
- STEM Activities with 5D: Apples Ahead Relay, Apples Afar, Building the Tallest Tower
- Zentangle creations with 5D and 5P
- Water bucket challenge with 5D
- Team Building Lessons: What Helps/What Hurts, All Are Welcome, What Teamwork Looks Like/Feels Like
- Watercolor Mantras
- Personal Collage Posters
- Started our first read aloud: Scar Island
- Read The Invisible Boy and discussed our community/having everyone feel visible, welcome and included
- Artifact Museum with the entire fifth grade
- Introduced the House System...your child will be sorted into one of five houses next Friday!
*Reminder: Curriculum Night will look different this year. You are welcome to bring your child and drop by any time between 6:30-7:30. Your child will show you around the room, as well as some things that are important to them. A curriculum packet will be available for you to take home.
*Room Parent Needed! I'm looking for one or two room parents...if you are interested, please let me know! I would be so grateful.
Enjoy the long weekend!
Mrs. Loh
