Week 23!

Another busy week has come and gone.  We are in the thick of some really powerful learning and I am so impressed by the level of thinking and creativity that I have seen in the classroom.  Check out some highlights below:

*Math:

  • Students explored real life tiny houses by watching architects and designers create homes
  • Did quick sketches of the interior and exterior of their own tiny home
  • Created detailed and neat final blueprints for their interior and exterior
  • Blueprints were approved by the lovely building inspector on Friday
  • Learned and practiced customary units

*Literacy:
  • Mined various texts to find strong, solid evidence rather than interesting details
  • Chose individual research topics for our Ted Talks
  • Began researching both sides of our individual topic to see which side has stronger evidence

*Science:
  • Continued learning about earth's systems
  • Visited 5P, 5C and 5D to learn about the geosphere, biosphere and all spheres interacting together.
  • Completed two hands on activities with 5D about water on earth.

Reminder:
***Students will begin building their tiny homes on Monday.  If possible, please send them to school with foam board for their home.
